Baby planning is one of the most important decisions in your life. However, only you can decide whether you are ready to have a baby or not. For the baby to be happy and healthy, it is important for the parents to be sure that they are ready to have a baby. Your peers may be having babies, but that doesn’t mean that it’s the right time for you too. Since parenting is a lifelong commitment, it is important to be completely confident of yourself before taking this huge step.
All new parents have a lot of challenges to face together; therefore before you make this decision, you have to make sure that you are ready.
Parenting is an extremely joyful experience, but it is both rewarding and demanding. This is a wonderful journey of self discovery. You will need a lot of love, energy and patience to be able to become caring parents. Your child’s needs keep changing constantly and throughout this period, you not only have to fulfill those needs, but first find out what those needs are. Parenting can be joyful, rewarding, and demanding.
Many new parents have unrealistic expectations about their roles. They feel that being a good parent can come naturally and with a new baby, everything in their life will fall in place by itself. However, this cannot be further from truth. With moms pregnancy, you may have to give up your freedom completely. Your child may not be able to give you all the love and affection that you need, but you will have to give your child all the love and affection that you could possibly give.
Unrealistic expectations of parenthood can cause a lot of problems later on. You will not be able to adjust to your new role properly. It is important to understand that you will have to assume the role of being a parent while still managing all your other roles. You will have the housework, your job and all other activities that you do, along with being a good parent. In such a case, do not try to take on everything on yourself; you will only end up being overwhelmed. Better is to acknowledge that you need help and seek help from among family and friends.
Start by talking to other parents who have just had children. Their circumstances, strengths and weaknesses may not be the same as yours, however, it will give you a good idea of what challenges to expect in the future. If you have spent some time around other children, things might be slightly easier for you.
Take stock of all the things you require for planning parenting. Do you have the time to raise a child? You may need to put your career plans on hold. Are you prepared for that? You will also need a lot of energy to care for your child. Make sure that you think through all of this before you make this life changing decision. |
